Our Self Catering Holiday Accomodation

Our holiday cottages enjoy a very peaceful and tranquil setting down a long private driveway in a very quiet country village close to the sea. They both enjoy there own private enclosed gardens with sea views and have the added benefit of barbeque areas and seating to enjoy the great outdoors. The peace is a real bonus to these properties and you can really hear the silence even in the middle of the school holidays when everywhere else is noisy and chaotic you can come home and escape to the peace and tranquillity of Llyn Retreats.

We have horses grazing in the fields surrounding the property and in the summer we grow our own hay which attracts a magnitude of wildlife into the fields which include dragonflies, butterflies, and in the dusk the bats who live in the barns can be seen flitting about amongst the fruit trees and mature trees which abound the property.

In olden times the farmhouse in which we live was the centre of transport links for the countryside into the main business centre of Pwllheli. Coach and horses were kept here and all the goods and passengers from the end of the peninsula would use the coach and carriage to transport themselves and their goods into town once a week. The name Tir Gwenith (which is the name of the main house here) means Land of the Wheat and which would have been an unusual cereal crop to grow in this area. There is no other house with this name in the county that we know of such is its uniqueness.

The beach at Penllech which is a 10 minute walk away and just less than a mile round lanes, is superb for windsurfing, sailing, kayaking or swimming. Occasionally we see surf here but more likely to be of use for surfers would be the next bay along at Porth Towyn or the National Trust owned Whistlings Sands which is a 5 minute drive away. Close by we have great pubs namely The Lion in Tudweiliog, or the 2 in Aberdaron which both serve wonderful food and real ales. The Ship in Edern is another popular choice and it offers an exciting and ever changing menu for the discerning foodie.

The Coachhouse which is the original whitewashed farm cottage and dates back centuries has been modernised and improved over the years to provide comfortable home from home accommodation. We have furnished it in a simple style using a mixture of antiques and more modern furniture but all with comfort and style in mind. The property is double glazed, centrally heated and with the added feature of a cast iron wood burner to provide that true country living style and that combined with the real wool throws and cosy lighting make this a wonderful place for relaxing and enjoying each others company. We have provided books, magazines & games for entertainment.

Should you need anything during your stay we are more than happy to try and provide you with it, kites, binoculars, rucksacks for day trips away. We do, wherever possible, aim to make your holiday complete. The property has two bedrooms – one double and a twin again furnished simply but with everything you would need for a comfortable stay. Our aim when creating our business was to make sure that our guests were truly looked after – and to this end we make sure that our beds are comfortable with the pillows and duvets being changed each year. The beds are all made up prior to your arrival so that you relax from the moment you unload. There will be a Welcome Hamper with a selection of goodies for you, ice cubes in the freezer, milk in the fridge. The heating will be on and in the case of late arrivals, the fire lit and lights left on so that you immediately know you have arrived at your new home!

The Lodge which we renovated during the Spring of 2012, is cosy and warm and has the best of the views towards Holy Island on Anglesey and the lighthouse on South Stack. Both of these are well worth a day visit. The double glazing helps keep you warm on those cooler days together with the newly installed cast iron log effect stove which is more than adequate to heat the whole property. The dining room, lounge and kitchen are all open plan so families can play together round the dining table while watching the large flat screen T.V. The Lodge sleeps 5 in 2 double bedrooms and a single all with fitted furniture.

The gardens surround the property and overlook the adjacent hayfield with a mature wood to one side, so privacy is guaranteed. There is a large wooden bench for al fresco eating and a barbeque for those balmy summer evenings or long leisurely lunches. There is plenty of parking for two cars and extra boat trailers etc can be accommodated around the smallholding should it be necessary. Once again all bed linen is provided and the beds will be made prior to your arrival. A Welcome hamper will be left in the property for you to enjoy as you settle in to your holiday home surroundings.

We would advise that we are pet friendly but would, for the sake of future guests, insist that no dogs are allowed on the beds or furniture and that both properties are non smoking. Check out time on the day of departure is 9.30am so that we can ensure that the properties get a thorough cleaning and changeoever service before the next guests arrive after 3.30pm.

Other than those “house rules” we are flexible and welcoming and want you to enjoy a relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings. We look forward to welcoming you to Llyn Retreats and Lily the campervan in the near future. Should you wish to speak to us in person to talk through your booking or requirements please do not hesitate to contact either Gwenllian or Richard on our home telephone number 01758 770262.
